We
are an association of foreign language specialists,
led by Company Director Viv Gatley. We have wide teaching
experience and a deep regard for the particular needs
of English-speaking learners, especially in Britain.
All our tutors are professionally
qualified in the required language (many
are native speakers of the target language), all
are professionally qualified to teach,
and all are particularly
interested in the psychology of learning and in creating
a low threat environment.
Viv Gatley was brought
up bilingual, and she
has had more than 35 years of teaching languages to
people of all ages from 6 to 70, in
all types of school and in industry. When Head of Modern
Languages, she specialised in integrating Art (the visual)
with the teaching of languages, and in Learning Through
Doing (the Froebel method). This combination proved
to be immensely successful, hence the use by ALLS of
practical, “workshop style” training, which
is entirely relevant to adult learners.
Viv studied the psychology
of learning as a major element of her
academic qualifications, and she enjoys putting it into
practice. Hence the ALLS
emphasis on developing in students a new self-confidence
and self-esteem, centred on the successful
acquisition of language learning skills.
